Bishop Richard F. Stika is asking the faithful of the Diocese of Knoxville to join Pope Francis today, Friday, March 27, for a special blessing live from St. Peter's Square at 1 p.m. EDT.
The Holy Father will grant those who participate in the live stream a plenary indulgence before imparting the blessing. The prayer and blessing will be broadcast on the Vatican News website (https://www.vaticannews.va/en.html).
We know many of you have been watching Mass at home, and we hope that has been a powerful way for you to stay connected to our Parish during this time of self-isolation.
Did you know that we created a Mass aid that you can download, print, and use at home?
Did you know it includes the Act of Spiritual Communion for you to say at home?
You can find it here:
We hope you find this to be a useful resource.
My fellow parishioners,
During this time when we are all called to stay at home, and public Mass is not being offered, I ask that you please keep our wonderful RCIA Elect and Candidates in your prayers.
Normally, at this time of year, we ask you to choose a person in RCIA to pray for daily, and offer them your written intentions so they know they are loved and prayed for.
With the directive to stay at home, our RCIA class is facing many challenges.
I would like to offer a way for you to continue to support our RCIA candidates from home.
Please visit the RCIA Candidates page and complete an email prayer card, which will then be sent to the Church. I will print them out and place them in each RCIA candidate's envelope in the vestibule of the Church.
Also, if you come to Church for Adoration, there is a table in the vestibule with prayer cards for each RCIA candidate/elect. Please take a moment to fill it out.
Thank you for continuing to support those in RCIA throughout this Lenten season.
Yours in Christ,
Our Lenten Penance Service which was scheduled for this evening has been cancelled. Father Michael and Father Emmanuel will be available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation every Wednesday through Holy Week from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM in the chapel, in addition to Saturdays from
4 PM to 5 PM.
The last public Mass at St. Dominic Church before the suspension of public Masses in our diocese will be on Thursday the 19th at 8:15 am. This was not an easy decision made by our bishop. Please keep Bishop Stika in his role as our diocesan shepherd entrusted with the care of the whole flock in your prayers.
Effective March 20, the public celebration of Mass in the Diocese of Knoxville will cease. Priests however will continue to celebrate daily Mass. I have also requested that all small Adoration Chapels be closed but all churches remain open with daily adoration. People thus will have the chance to spread out.
Parishioner Daniel Michalski passed away on March 16, 2020. Please pray for the repose of his soul.
He is survived by his cousin.
