Holy Week at St. Dominic Church

    Monday, April 6th
6:00 – 7:00 p.m. – Prayer of the Martyrs.  Every day we hear of men and women around our world being martyred for their faith in Christ.  This prayer offered by the Community of Sant’Egidio every year is a remembrance of all the Christian men and women (Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant) who have witnessed to their faith in Christ even to the point of martyrdom in this past year.  All people are welcome to attend this prayer service.

    Tuesday, April 7th
8:15 a.m. – Morning Mass in day chapel of church
7:30 p.m. – Diocesan Chrism Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Knoxville.  In this diocesan celebration the bishop and priests of the diocese re-commit to their service and the oils to be used for the sacraments throughout the upcoming year are consecrated.

    Wednesday, April 8th
8:15 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. – Mass in the day chapel of church
6:00 p.m. – Parish Seder meal.  The Seder meal is a reenactment of the traditional Passover Seder meal and is a reflection of Christianity’s Jewish roots.  The ritual celebration is followed by a parish dinner.  Sign-up sheets are in the vestibule of the church.

    Holy Thursday, April 9th
8:15 a.m. – Morning Prayer in the day chapel of church.
7:00 p.m. – Mass of the Lord’s Supper.  The season of Lent ends with the beginning of this Mass and we enter the continuous celebration of the Triduum.  At the Holy Thursday Mass we remember our Lord’s institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper and the call to serve just as he served in the washing of the feet.  The celebration ends in silence as the Blessed Sacrament is processed to the altar of repose and the sanctuary is stripped.  Adoration will be offered in the day chapel, ending with the Tenebrae Service.
10:00 p.m. – Tenebrae Service in day chapel of church.

    Good Friday, April 10th
8:15 a.m. – Morning Prayer in the day chapel of church and Stations of the Cross
11:00 a.m. – Stations of the Cross in Spanish
2.:00 p.m. – “Journeying with the Cross” –   During the hike at Bay's Mountain the Stations of the Cross will be prayed.

7:00 p.m. – Celebration of the Lord’s Passion with veneration of the Cross.  This solemn celebration begins in silence as the ministers prostrate themselves before the altar.  We reflect on the passion of Christ, we offer special petitions for our world and we venerate the cross.  Holy Communion is offered.  The celebration ends in silence.  (There is a special collection taken up at this celebration for the Holy Land.)

    Holy Saturday, April 11th
Today, the Church waits at the Lord’s tomb, meditating on his suffering and death.  The altar is left bare and the sacrifice of the Mass is not celebrated.  Only after the solemn vigil during the night, does the Easter celebration begin with a spirit of joy that overflows into the following season of fifty days!
8:15 a.m. – Morning prayer in the day chapel of church.  (Today, there will be no confessions nor the 5:30 p.m. Mass.)

    Easter Vigil – 8:00 p.m.
This is the most important celebration of the Church’s year!  Christ has risen and the light of the resurrection scatters the darkness of sin and death!  We begin the Easter Vigil with the lighting of the Easter fire and the blessing of the Paschal candle.  The light of the resurrection is passed to each person participating in the vigil.  We recall God’s mighty deeds throughout salvation history which is all fulfilled in the resurrection of Christ!  We welcome new members into the Catholic Church as they receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist! We celebrate Eucharist in the full glory of the resurrection and we are sent forth as disciples into the world to proclaim the glory of Christ!

    Easter Sunday, April 12th
    Masses at 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m. (Spanish) and 5:30 p.m.  (An Easter Egg Hunt will be held after the 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Masses.)

Christ is risen, very truly he is risen!
