    Sant'Egidio Pilgrimage Information

    Picture

Our pilgrims left bright and early on a Friday morning. They kept us updated with news of their adventures.

    10:00 Friday evening
Our St. Dominic group made it to the retreat center in Kearny, NJ. Tomorrow we begin our daily trips into NYC to meet with the Community of Sant'Egidio and join in their work of prayer, friendship with the poor and peace. The adventure begins!
A busy Saturday with new friends.
Saturday was a busy day. We made new friends at the Sant'Egidio School of Peace.  We had the chance to take our new friends to the zoo and for a picnic in the park. This evening we  hiked across the Brooklyn Bridge!  What a wonderful fulfilling day.
Sunday started with a trip to St. Patrick's Cathedral, a stop at Grand Central Station, a visit to the Museum of Jewish Heritage and ended with dinner with the Sant'Egidio New York Community
    • Monday's travels took us to the United Nations
Another busy day. Liberty and Ellis Island on Tuesday. After that we helped the S'E Community prepare and distribute meals to the homeless around Grand Central Station. After that, people watching in Times Square. (While the group was preparing the meals, Father Michael was able to get away and visit Margie - a dear friend and one of the first elderly friends of the community in NYC.).
Wednesday included a tour of the Old St. Patrick's Cathedral, which is being renovated, and visits to LIttle Italy and Chinatown.
Last day on the NY pilgrimage - 9/11 Memorial and Museum, St. Peter's Church (oldest in the City), Central Park, prayer and pizza with the community at St. Augustine Church in Brooklyn. Tomorrow, back to E TN. It has been a great week!

We are home, safe and sound. Thanks for all your prayers.
