St. Dominic Senior Ministry

- Our Home campaign focus at St. Dominic's was to help build up ministries in our parish. One ministry we focused on was the ministry to our senior community. Our Coordinator of Senior Ministry is Amy Makemson. Good things have been happening! From Maintenance to Mission!
  
  As many of you know, we recently began a new concept of "KEEPING CONNECTED" with one another via ZOOM classes since we currently cannot meet as a group for special events, due to the virus pandemic. We launched our first segment of "KEEPING CONNECTED" on 9/24/20 by featuring a few authentic Mexican recipes from Rosa Mondragon, and her Mother, Guadalupe Barajas.   SENIOR MINISTRY ICE CREAM SOCIAL: The Knights of Columbus sponsored an Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social to welcome back the members of our Senior Ministry on Aug. 25th, 2021 in the Parish Life Center. We had about 50 people in attendance! In addition to the ice cream and toppings, a trivia game was played and numerous door prizes were awarded.   Only two of us Senior Ministry Members attended the Symphony of the Mountains outdoor concert behind the Allandale Mansion on Sunday evening, July 25, 2021. (One of us being 90 years old! She was such a trooper!) The high heat and humidity (& potential mosquitoes) deterred several other members who had planned to join us, for the event but, fortunately, a light breeze picked up that kept us cool and comfortable (and the bugs at bay!) This was the first time that the entire symphony was able to perform since the start of the Covid pandemic and the audience was thrllled! The music selections were absolutely beautiful but just after the intermission, distant thunder and lightening threatened everyone's safety and the concert had to end much too early. /photoalbums/senior-ministry/img-0240.jpeg _parent
  
  A small group of us visited the "Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail Interpretive Center" in Duffield, VA on July 19, 2021. We learned some of the hardships that the early pioneers had to endure as they embarked westward through this part of the country. It was very interesting and informative. Afterwards, we ate lunch at "ChuBEES," a local diner that had delicious food. Before heading back to Kingsport, we finished off our day with a stop at Natural Tunnel State Park to visit the museum / gift shop and ride the chair lift down to view the tunnel. /photoalbums/senior-ministry/img-0223-2.jpeg _parent
